Why Choose Me?
I offer what other attorneys don't.
I have been a lawyer for thirty years –
all of it in Cincinnati, almost all of it in personal injury cases.
Martindale Hubbell – a legal publishing company that surveys attorneys in
order to rate lawyers by ability – has consistently rated me “AV”, meaning
that (1) that other attorneys rank me “at the highest level of
professional excellence” and (2) more important, those same attorneys
rank my ethical standing as “very high”. There is no higher rating.
Experience
The Supreme Court of Ohio requires every
lawyer to attend lectures on law, on ethics and on professionalism.
Thirty hours every two years. I am repeatedly asked – by bar
associations, and by educational organizations – to give the presentations
other attorneys attend to meet this requirement. I teach other lawyers
about insurance law, personal injury law, how to try cases, Ethics and
Professionalism. I do this because I enjoy it, because it makes all lawyers
better, and because it’s a good way for me to keep up with changes in the
law. Who would you rather have represent you – me, or one of my students?
Achievements
I am active in lawyers’ professional organizations.
In Ohio, I have been Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Insurance Law
Committee and its Negligence – or Personal Injury - Law Committee. These are
committees of lawyers from across the state, who are asked to comment on new
laws and suggest changes for the legislature to pass. When the Ohio General
Assembly made important changes to personal injury law in 2003 and 2005, the
committee of Ohio Judges who were in charge of writing jury instructions asked
me to help them write new instructions to give the juries in personal injury
cases. I worked with the committee for four years writing the instructions
judges now read to juries in Ohio courtrooms every day. I have been on
the Cincinnati Bar Association’s Ethics Committee for over 20 years, serving as
Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary at different times. For a month every year,
I serve on the committee’s “hot line” – giving free advice to lawyers who call
with questions on legal ethics.
Clients
I have represented injured persons for almost thirty
years. Unlike most personal injury lawyers, I have also represented insurance
companies in personal injury lawsuits for just as long. Some people say that
this is a good way to learn the things that will help try, win, or settle
cases. I don’t really know if any “secrets” are that reliable. But I have
learned how to avoid mistakes, how to make a bad situation better, and how
sometimes you can make a good situation excellent. I have learned how
lawyers, judges and insurance adjusters think when they make decisions about a
case. More than anything, I have learned that nothing is as successful as
courage, hard work, and enthusiasm. My goal is to give you this kind of
representation, and to do it in a courteous, friendly and professional way.
